Pride Month is a time to for remembrance of Queer history, reverence for the struggles of those community members who have gone before us, and revolutions still ongoing. This collection of classic writing represents LGBT writers from the past, some who have had their queer identities ignored or, in some cases, covered up. History was never as straight as you think. The list features titles for both kids and teens.Ĭelebrate and recognize the transgender community with these reads. Indiana Youth Group is a local organization that creates safe spaces to empower and foster community for LGBTQ+ youth (ages 12 - 24). These 10 books explore these intersections more in depth, from examining how they shape definitions of masculinity in American literature to showing how they inform our understandings of care work. Both movements challenge our understandings of what is normal for our bodies, for our sex lives, and for our communities. Queer disabled people have long highlighted the similarities between the fight for queer liberation and the fight for disability justice. The now-named Chris Gonzalez Collection will be continuously updated and managed by the librarians of IndyPL. In 2017, Indy Pride entered into a partnership with The Indianapolis Public Library to receive most of the book and video materials, curate, and house them at Central Library. Curated by Michael Bohr, the library was comprised of over 7,000 titles, mostly from donations from community members. In existence for over 25 years, the Chris Gonzalez Library and Archives served as a place where LGBTQ+ people could access materials specific to their community.
